116th Congress
Updated 4/22/2020
Small businesses and the workers they employ are the fabric of our Hill Country community. I am committed to helping the 21st District get back on its feet during this economic disruption mandated by the government to protect public health. With important relief legislation still in flux, many of these resources will need to be updated as programs come online, and further guidance is provided.
SBA has included the entire state of Texas in its Economic Injury Disaster Declaration and granted access to its Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program, which will provide long-term, low-interest loans to qualifying businesses across the state!
This is exactly what I have been calling for to help our local small businesses in Central Texas bridge the gap. Fantastic news!
Rep. Chip Roy to introduce the "Free Up Capital Now Act"
Congress must support small businesses – the backbone of the American economy – through the government-mandated "social distancing" period. Small businesses are hurting, and the federal government has a duty to support them so that there are jobs waiting for workers when we ultimately defeat coronavirus.
Rep. Chip Roy introduces the BEAT CHINA Act:
As we are seeing play out in real time, the United States does not have nearly enough control of the pharmaceutical supply chain. For example, roughly 97 percent of the antibiotics used in the U.S. come from China, and necessary ingredients for many lifesaving drugs are made exclusively in China. If the Chinese wanted to put us in a serious bind, they could withhold these lifesaving drugs from the United States, as their own government-run newspapers have already suggested.
Rep. Chip Roy released the following statement H.R. 6259 – Veteran Access To Direct Primary Care Act:
"Far too often, our veterans run into problems obtaining efficient care. Whether it is long wait times at the VA, long distances to the VA, or lack of access to primary care doctors, many veterans find it difficult to get the services and care they need. That should never be the case.
Tonight, I voted against Nancy Pelosi's Coronavirus bill.
I could not support the bill for several reasons.
First, the legislative process is corrupted. As of 9:51 pm, I was communicating with a group of U.S. Congressmen — none of whom knew which version of the legislation to review — while the Chamber of Commerce issued statements of support. As often happens, K Street had the draft before most members of Congress.
Second, we were given a take-it-or-leave it bill with zero chance to amend it or debate it. None.
Rep. Roy introduces RESULT acts amid the coronavirus pandemic.
As COVID-19 continues to spread throughout the world, it is important the United States has the ability to work with other nations to ensure we have quick access to necessary medicines and medical devices. This is why I am introducing the RESULT for Coronavirus Patients Act, along with the RESULT act that also includes non-coronavirus medicines and devices.
First and foremost, I want you to know that our entire staff is working round the clock with federal, state, and local officials in the district as we continue dealing with coronavirus. As always, please reach out to our Washington, D.C. or district offices if you have any specific questions, concerns, or need assistance.
What Is Coronavirus?
COVID-19, more commonly called the "coronavirus," is the disease caused by the new coronavirus that emerged in China in 2019.
Rep. Chip Roy released the following statement on H.R. 6172 — USA FREEDOM Reauthorization Act of 2020:
Today, the House passed an incredibly disappointing FISA reauthorization that is the definition of the swamp in action.
How is that? The bill provides more scrutiny for politicians and candidates for office than it does for everyday Americans. The fact is civil liberties of all American citizens should be protected. Having an election certificate shouldn't make you special.
Dear Secretary Azar, Acting Secretary Wolf, and Secretary Esper,
