Reps. Roy & Collins call on Mayorkas to end parole abuse

March 1, 2024

WASHINGTON, DC — On Friday, Representatives Chip Roy (TX-21) and Mike Collins (GA-10) called on Department of Homeland Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to end the Biden administration's abuse of parole.

The representatives wrote in a joint letter, The nation is entering its fourth year of the worst border crisis in recent history, but the Biden Administration has continued to show little interest in reversing its destructive border policies…  The impacts of mass parole are devastating, and are clearly evidenced by the recent murder of 22-year-old Laken Riley, a nursing student at Augusta University who was killed by alien paroled and released under this administration.”

The lawmakers cite that Riley was killed by a Venezuelan national who was paroled and released into the United States in September 2022. The illegal alien was later arrested in New York City but was never removed due to local authorities releasing him before immigration officials could lodge a detainer.

Representative Roy said, “Laken Riley had her life tragically cut short by an illegal migrant who was paroled into this country instead of being detained like the law requires. The Biden administration is massively abusing parole to further the radical progressive Democrats' open-border invasion.

Congress not only has a duty to defund and reform these lawless policies, but we also owe it to the American people to get to the bottom of the extent of the abuse of parole by the Biden administration.”

“The mass parole of illegal immigrants undermines national security, aides and abets the current invasion at our southern border, and endangers the lives of Americans," said Representative Collins. If it weren’t for the Biden administration’s abuse of parole authority, Laken Riley would still be with us.”
