Rep. Roy’s statement on passage of the Laken Riley Act into law
WASHINGTON — Rep. Roy issued the following statement on Wednesday afternoon:
“I want to thank President Trump for moving quickly to sign the Laken Riley Act into law today. This common sense bill makes it mandatory for more criminal aliens, like Laken Riley's killer, to be detained and removed from the U.S. I am particularly pleased the bill includes the SUE Act — which I introduced last Congress with my friend Dan Bishop - to provide states with legal standing to sue the federal government when it fails to enforce immigration law.
I wish I could have been present for the signing to thanks the bill’s lead sponsor Mike Collins (R-GA), Laken Riley’s family, and in particular my friend Alexis Nungaray for their courage to fight for these reforms to take place after their personal tragic losses. The legislation is an important step in the process to reclaim our borders and restore public safety, American sovereignty and the rule of law, but our work continues. Now, Congress needs to act right away to provide the Trump administration with resources to secure the border and conduct more deportations.”
