Rep. Roy's statement on H.R.6833

April 1, 2022

WASHINGTON — Congressman Roy issued the following statement after voting against H.R.6833 — a government-mandated price control on insulin:

I am deeply concerned about the price of insulin that poses a serious problem for many American families. Unfortunately, Democrats brought a bill that would establish federal price controls which has always proven to destroy innovation and often result in fewer options and long term higher prices.

Rather than address the underlying causes of overpriced insulin or trying to expand innovative solutions, this bill simply shifts costs, which would result in higher premiums and drug costs for all Americans.  I support and have advocated for numerous bills and ideas to drive down the price of insulin and other drugs - from FDA reform to empowerment of consumers in the form of expanded tax-benefitted HSAs; from elimination of incentives for middle-men driving up prices, to patent reforms to encourage and not stifle innovation; and everything in between.  The answer is never government mandates.
