Rep. Roy on voting no on HR 7573
Rep. Roy on voting no on HR 7573 to remove certain statues from the Capitol:
Though, I commend my colleagues for pursuing the removal of statues in a legal and orderly way, I could not vote for this bill.
Our Nation is fighting a global pandemic and COVID-19 is spreading all along the border in Texas due to rampant illegal migration. Portland has been pillaged by anarchist attempting to harm federal agents and other cities like a Chicago are experiencing massive spikes in violence. And here we are, spending time and money to move statutes around.
If Congress is going to spend time and money, it should be on the issues that Americans are facing every day. Statue determinations for Statuary Hall have historically been made by state governments, if the American people have an issue with particular statues in the Capitol, they should raise their objections with their state.
