Rep. Roy statement on voting against the CASH Act

December 28, 2020

Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21) issued the following statement after voting against H.R. 9051 (the CASH Act) on Monday evening:

Today, I voted against the CASH Act because it will saddle our children and grandchildren with an additional $463 billion in debt with payments that are not targeted to those in need nor offset with cuts in unnecessary spending. This does nothing to help small businesses, which have been shutdown by the tyrannical lockdowns of local governments, keep their doors open or their workers employed. Giving checks to those whose income has not been affected is an affront to those whose livelihoods have been been destroyed by government, and it will not change the need to safely reopen America's economy.
