Rep. Roy Re-Introduces Legislation to Eliminate Gender Ideology off of Passports

February 7, 2025
WASHINGTON —  Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21) re-introduced the Passport Sanity Act today. This legislation prevents all United States passports from being used to promote radical gender ideology.
Congressman Roy said the following about this legislation:
“Radical gender ideology must be eliminated from every facet of the American government, root and branch. Passports exist to protect our national security by verifying the identity of those who exit and reenter our country, and that's why they need to be grounded in reality. They are not a political delivery system to push a false notion that goes against the fact that the only two genders in existence are male and female.
That's why I first introduced this bill in 2022. Now, President Trump and Secretary Rubio have rightly restored sanity to America's passports as part of this administration's revolution of common sense; Congress needs to back them up, codify it, and make it permanent.”
The Passport Sanity Act will:
  • Prohibit the Secretary of State from issuing a passport, passport card, or Consular Report of Birth Abroad that includes the unspecified (X) gender designation.
  • Require applications for these documents to include only the gender designations of male or female.
