Rep. Roy Re-Introduces Legislation Aimed at Helping Our Veterans

WASHINGTON —  Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21) re-introduced two bills Tuesday aimed at improving the lives and protecting the rights of America’s veterans.

The Veteran Access to Direct Primary Care Act would create a pilot program to allow veterans the opportunity to enroll in Direct Primary Care (DPC) arrangements and bypass the bureaucracy at the VA. The Defending Veterans' Second Amendments Rights Act will safeguard the Second Amendment rights of the brave men and women who have served our nation and seek care from the VA.

Congressman Roy on the Veteran Access to Direct Primary Care Act “It’s a sad fact that our veterans return home after defending our nation, only to be forced to cut through thick red tape to get the care and benefits they have earned. I am proud to stand up for our heroes and lead the effort to give them the freedom to access healthcare that prioritizes patients, like direct primary care. Veterans should have access to the care that best fits their needs, whether that is within the VA or in the community.”

Congressman Roy on the Defending Veterans' Second Amendments Rights Act “Today, veterans fear losing their right to bear arms. When a veteran seeks care for mental health issues at the VA and receives a disability rating for having a mental illness, the Department of Veterans Affairs transfers their personal information to the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System. No veteran should fear losing the rights that they have defended for simply seeking help.”
