May 29, 2024

WASHINGTON, DC — Representative Chip Roy (TX-21) issued the following statement Wednesday afternoon in response to the House Judiciary Committee’s letter spearheading the implementation of his amendment to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) to conduct oversight of the intelligence community.

“I am very pleased to see that my amendment to increase congressional oversight over FISA surveillance is now in federal law. I commend Chairman Jordan and Ranking Member Nadler for moving forward on this critical measure to keep tabs on the executive branch so that Congress may better protect the American people’s rights,” Congressman Roy said.

On Tuesday, the House Judiciary Committee submitted its first request for congressional access to proceedings of the FISA surveillance court under the Roy Amendment.

“This is a tremendous step forward for individual liberty and the Constitutional order,”Roy added.
