Rep. Roy leads colleagues in calling on Republican leaders to block funding a government to enforce vaccine mandates, draft women

December 1, 2021

WASHINGTON —On Monday, Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21), joined by 11 of his House colleagues, urged Republican leadership in the House and Senate to take a formal stand against funding the federal government that will enforce vaccine mandates and draft young women into military service.

"Continuing to fund this kind of garbage is inexcusable and is precisely what our constituents want us to oppose, and oppose loudly," the open letter reads. "Whether or not the judiciary may eventually bail out Americans from certain mandates and whether we are in the majority or not, we should never vote to fund immoral, unlawful, and repugnant policies."

Congressman Roy invites all members of the House Republican conference to take a stand and join him in what the letter calls "two important tests that will define the choice facing the American people in 2022."

Full text of the letter is available below:

Dear Leaders McCarthy & McConnell,

This week, House and Senate Republicans face at least two important tests that will define the choice facing the American people in 2022.

First, will Congressional Republicans vote for a continuing resolution ("CR"), or other government funding vehicle, that funds a government enforcing (or threatening the enforcement of) vaccine mandates on the American people?

Second, will Congressional Republicans vote for a National Defense Authorization Act ("NDAA") that — for the first time in history — will force 18-year-old women to register for the draft? This, of course on top of failing to hold Defense Department brass accountable for the failure in Afghanistan, pushing climate change policies and "trainings" for DOD personnel, and — among other things — continuing to fund CRT and other "woke" indoctrination programs.

Continuing to fund this kind of garbage is inexcusable and is precisely what our constituents want us to oppose, and oppose loudly. Whether or not the judiciary may eventually bail out Americans from certain mandates and whether we are in the majority or not, we should never vote to fund immoral, unlawful, and repugnant policies.

This is an open letter requesting that you each lead — and whip — Congressional Republicans to take the position that 1) we will — at a minimum — not vote for a CR, or any other government funding legislation, while any federal COVID-19 vaccine mandates remain in place, and 2) we will — at a minimum — not vote for an NDAA if the provision drafting women is not removed, or removed and replaced with a provision ending selective service registration altogether.

Sincerely,

Chip Roy
