Rep. Roy leads coalition to block President Biden from Rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement
Our elected officials should stand up for the needs of the American people – not the whims of the global political elite.
On Thursday Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21) – along with 22 original cosponsors introduced the No Taxpayer Funding for Paris Climate Agreement Act to prohibit taxpayer dollars from going to rejoin Paris Climate Agreement.
"Notwithstanding any other provision of law," the bill reads "no funds are authorized to be appropriated, obligated, or expended to take any action to provide for the United States to become a party to the Paris Agreement."
Cosponsors of the bill currently include: Reps. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), August Pfluger (R-TX), Jody Arrington (R-TX), Michael Cloud (R-TX), Roger Williams (R-TX), Tom McClintock (R-CA), Steve Womack (R-AR), Ted Budd (R-NC), Madison Cawthorn (R-NC), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Ken Buck (R-CO), Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Alex Mooney (R-WV), Mo Brooks (R-AL), Lisa McClain (R-MI), Greg Steube (R-FL), Greg Murphy (R-NC), David McKinley (R-WV), Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), Ben Cline (R-VA) , Barry Moore (R-AL), and David Rouzer (R-NC).
Rep Roy issued the following statement following introduction of the bill:
America now leads the world in oil and gas production, achieved energy independence from foreign competitors and began exporting natural gas for the first time in 60 years. During the Trump Administration, we accomplished this while simultaneously leading the world in total carbon emission reductions.
Rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement will initiate efforts to dismantle two decades of American energy progress and record production levels. Making energy more expensive and less abundant through regulation will only hurt our economy, especially low-income Americans, and return us to dependence on foreign countries like Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Iran for energy.
Shuttering American companies and killing jobs in Texas so career politicians like Secretary John Kerry can mingle in Paris, France is morally bankrupt. Our elected officials should stand up for the needs of the American people – not the whims of the global political elite.
