Rep. Roy issues statement on the FY25 National Defense Authorization Act
WASHINGTON, DC - Representative Chip Roy (TX-21) issued the following statement on the FY 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (H.R. 5009):
"I voted NO on the FY 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (H.R. 5009).
I was very happy to see that the NDAA adhered to spending caps in law and made some strides to restore mission focus at the Pentagon, primarily through language banning Critical Race Theory and prohibiting taxpayer funded sex-change procedures for minors under Tricare. I also commend Speaker Johnson and House GOP leadership for holding the line against the female draft language that the Senate tried to inject into the bill.
It is important to note that many Democrats opposed this bill simply because it prohibits taxpayer-funded child mutilation, which is truly emblematic of how radical and out of step their movement has become.
However, I could not ultimately support the final product in its totality, as I did the House version of the legislation earlier this year. Unfortunately, it did not go far enough. The final NDAA failed to eliminate DEI positions, such as the Chief Diversity Officer, and did not end Pentagon-funded sex-change surgeries for servicemembers. There is more work to be done. I look forward to continuing to work with President Trump to restore the readiness and lethality of our military."
