Rep. Roy issues statement on the FAA Reauthorization Act

May 10, 2024

WASHINGTON, DC — Representative Chip Roy (TX-21) issued the following statement on the FAA Reauthorization Act:

"The Senate passed an FAA reauthorization bill that adds five new roundtrip flights to Reagan National Airport (DCA) in Washington, DC, a critical step in expanding nonstop service to the San Antonio International Airport (SAT).

This Congress, I have relentlessly fought for a legislative solution to enable a nonstop flight between DCA and SAT. Last April, I led the San Antonio delegation in an organized effort to secure this legislative language. On the Rules Committee, we made sure the House considered an amendment to add seven flights at DCA. That amendment fell just short on the floor, but got closer than we’d ever achieved in the US House after years of fighting for these slots to help San Antonio — and paving way for the compromise we see today in the Senate-passed FAA bill led by Senator Ted Cruz.

I want to thank Senator Cruz for his steadfast leadership on this legislation. But our work is not over — we must pass this in the House and then continue fighting to ensure one of these new flights in our nation’s capital goes to Military City USA."
