Rep. Roy issues statement on court ruling against Biden's deportation freeze
WASHINGTON — Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21) issued the following statement Tuesday following Judge Drew Tipton's issuance of a temporary restraining order against President Biden's deportation moratorium:
President Biden's executive order halting deportations is an illegal executive overreach that usurps the power of Congress to rewrite federal law. I am pleased to see it enjoined by a federal court. President Biden's assault on the legal process is a dereliction of his duty to "take care that the laws be faithfully executed," and it puts the safety and security of Americans at risk in order to appease his far-left base. The moratorium lacks conditions, and therefore prevents deportations of dangerous criminals. I'm glad to see that the Texas Office of the Attorney General pushed back against this lawless approach to immigration policy. I hope President Biden has now learned that Texans will not stand for such reckless governance and that he will end this radical and reckless policy.
