Rep. Roy to Introduce Bill to Expand Education Options for Parents and their Children

July 24, 2020

Rep. Roy on planning to introduce a bill to let parents choose the best education options for their children:

As the Nation continues to battle the coronavirus pandemic, it is imperative we empower parents to make education decisions in the best interest of their own children based on the available information about health and safety. The data and science to date increasingly make clear that children are at dramatically lower risk of contracting and spreading the Coronavirus, and that the negative mental health, social, educational and other consequences of preventing their in-person education are significant.

Currently, billions of dollars of federal funding flows to public elementary and secondary schools whose doors are physically shut. That means taxpayers are paying for schools that children cannot attend. Parents should be able to direct these funds to the school options of their choice that fit the individual needs of their children. The bill I am drafting will do just that. This is a targeted measure designed to protect students and ensure education continuity as we battle this virus.
