Rep. Roy doubles down and demands answers on Fauci emails

September 9, 2021

WASHINGTON— On Thursday, Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21) and Rep. Bill Posey (FL-08) sent a letter to Dr. Anthony Fauci following his failure to provide information on correspondence with the virology community regarding the origins of COVID-19 and gain-of-function research in Wuhan, China.

In their initial message, the Congressmen gave Fauci a 30-day deadline to provide the relevant information; Fauci ignored it.

Full text of Thursday's letter can be found here and below:

Dear Dr. Fauci,

We write to you to follow up on a Congressional letter sent to you on July 28, 2021 surrounding the origins of COVID-19.[1] We have yet to receive a response from you and request once again that you provide transparent answers to the American people. Some of the issues we sought clarity from you were:

  • The Nature Medicine paper you sent to fellow colleagues at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) that indicates taxpayer dollars were funding gain-of-function research.[2]
  • Why the research done by Dr. Baric and Dr. Shi was approved by the NIH, but did not go through the HHS P3CO framework.
  • The specific discussion that occurred during the teleconference you participated in organized by Wellcome Trust President, Jeremy Farrar, on February 1, 2020.

Please direct your attention to our July 28 letter immediately.

Sincerely,

Chip Roy
Member of Congress

Bill Posey

Member of Congress
