Rep. Roy Demands Answers from National Abortion Federation over Coordination with Biden DOJ and Misleading Testimony
Washington, D.C. — Representative Chip Roy (TX-21), Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government, demanded documents and communications from the National Abortion Federation (NAF) related to the group’s coordination with the Biden-Harris Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) regarding enforcement of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act.
During the Biden-Harris Administration, the DOJ used the FACE Act to target prayer and peaceful demonstration near abortion clinics while failing to prosecute criminals who vandalized or threatened pro-life pregnancy counseling centers.
Recent reporting and documents released by the Functional Government Initiative (FGI) indicate that NAF maintained what one staff member described as an “amazing relationship” with DOJ’s Civil Rights Division and was involved in “FACE Act investigations” across multiple states. These revelations seemingly contradict sworn testimony given by NAF’s former Chief Legal and Strategy Officer, Talcott Camp, during a May 16, 2023 Judiciary Subcommittee hearing, where she denied any contact with the Biden Administration regarding FACE Act enforcement.
“The American people deserve to know whether the Biden-Harris DOJ coordinated with radical abortion groups to target peaceful pro-life Americans,” said Rep. Roy.“The weaponization of federal law to punish political opponents and criminalize prayer outside abortion clinics is a gross abuse of power that demands accountability.”
The letter requests all documents and communications between NAF, DOJ, and the FBI from January 20, 2021, to January 20, 2025, concerning FACE Act investigations or prosecutions in which NAF provided assistance or coordination. “Congress has an important interest in the protection of fundamental free speech principles and the fair and even-handed enforcement of our nation’s civil rights laws,” Rep. Roy concluded.
