Rep. Roy Celebrates the Advancement of the FACE Act Repeal Act

June 10, 2025

Washington, D.C. — The House Judiciary Committee voted to advance H.R. 589 the "FACE Act Repeal Act of 2025" today, a bill introduced by Representative Chip Roy (TX-21).

Congressman Roy said: "The FACE Act has been undeniably - and predictably - weaponized to target pro-life Americans while turning a blind eye to the destruction, vandalism, and even firebombing of pregnancy resource centers and churches. Data my office obtained from Merrick Garland's DOJ showed that 97% of FACE Act prosecutions from 1994-2024 were against pro-life Americans - resulting in an elderly death camp survivor, a progressive activist, a 75 year-old grandmother, and a father of 7 being prosecuted and even given time in jail.

Our federal government has too many unnecessary laws that can be abused and weaponized against the people. No American should have the heavy hand of the federal government come down on them simply because they’re speaking out for - or against - life, regardless of who is in control of the executive branch.

I would like to thank Chairman Jordan for partnering with me on this effort, and I am grateful that my colleagues answered the call and passed H.R. 589, the FACE Act Repeal Act out of committee.

While President Trump has rightfully pardoned FACE Act defendants unfairly prosecuted under President Biden, Congress must bring this bill to the floor and send it to the President's desk, ensuring that no future administration can weaponize this law against pro-lifers ever again.”
