Rep. Chip Roy Statement on the Hong Kong Protests

WASHINGTON--Rep. Chip Roy released the following statement Thursday August 15, 2019:

I commend those brave men & women standing for freedom against mainland China's authoritarian encroachment on the rights of the people of Hong Kong and their ability to practice self-governance. While it looks like the tides may be shifting as pressure has intensified on the Chinese communist government and the pro-democracy protestors in Hong Kong since the airport takeover, there is much more to do. We must continue to voice our solidarity with those residents in Hong Kong who are advocating for human liberty and the rule of law.

As the U.S. engages with Xi Jinping and China generally, we must continue to remain firm in our opposition to authoritarian rule and any government that suppresses the natural rights of man - especially those actively advocating for self-determination.
