Rep. Chip Roy on the shootings in El Paso, TX and Ohio

August 5, 2019
WASHINGTON--Rep. Chip Roy released the following statement Sunday regarding the shootings in El Paso, TX and Ohio:
There is a sickness that is engulfing our nation. It is evil. And that evil is manifesting itself increasingly in the form of mass carnage, perpetrated by cowards who have no honor.
There is undoubtedly a growing segment of sick racists who are white males, often in their 20's, who carry out these crimes and offer some twisted screed or manifesto in explanation for that which has no explanation beyond evil.
As with all criminal activity, our job is to give law enforcement the tools necessary to combat it and our judicial system the path to punish it.
We should look deeply into our societal mirror to address this cultural rot. But at its core - we are losing the sense of community and purpose across civil society that gave us the ability to live responsibly in a free society.
We pray for El Paso, we pray for Dayton, and we pray for the daily tragedies that don't make national headlines. But we also pray for the wisdom to course correct and we commit to do so - beyond the sound bites of blaming guns, video games, or any political party for a much deeper societal problem.
