Rep. Chip Roy On The Removal Of U.S. Armed Forces From Yemen
Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) released the following statement regarding his vote against H.J. Res. 37 - Directing the removal of United States Armed Forces from hostilities in the Republic of Yemen that have not been authorized by Congress:
"While the Constitution invests significant authority in the commander-in-chief to ensure the defense of the country, Congress has the power to declare war and authorize the use of force. We are currently operating under a 17-year-old authorization of force that was specifically designed to go after Al-Qaeda. As we look into our operations in Yemen, it would seem prudent for Congress to proactively make a choice as to whether we should be there or not.
Additionally, I am encouraged to see that 424 members of the house came together to support Israel and condemn anti-Semitism."
