WASHINGTON--Rep. Chip Roy released the following statement Tuesday ahead of the House vote on H. Res. 271 - a resolution regarding the President's Decision to stand with states in challenging Obamacare's constitutionality:

"Today, I will vote against the resolution House Democrats are putting forth to condemn the Trump administration for standing with the states challenging Obamacare. My colleagues across the aisle are not offering any solutions to lower health care costs and fix our broken health care system. Instead, they are pushing Medicare-for-All—a government takeover of health care that would cost over $30 trillion, destroy consumer choice, and take away freedom.

While falsely claiming that repeal of Obamacare would leave people with a health condition unable to get healthcare, Democrats promote government and insurance companies, not patient care.

Rather, this is an opportunity to rid ourselves of Obamacare, a badly broken system that has proven only to restrict choice while increasing costs on American families and stripping millions of Americans from the insurance they held previously.

This is an opportunity to embrace a better way. We have an opportunity to realign our health care system to expand consumer choice, make health care more affordable for hard working families, and provide a more effective state based approach to protect the small percentage of Americans unable to easily get access to care.

I support the president in backing the 20 states challenging the constitutionality of Obamacare. That lawsuit is providing our nation an opportunity to embrace health care freedom. President Trump is right to support it, and Congress should listen."
