Rep. Chip Roy Released The Following Statement On H.R. 6082, Forgotten Vietnam Veterans Act
Rep. Chip Roy released the following statement on the inclusion of H.R. 6082, Forgotten Vietnam Veterans Act, in S.4511, the Veterans Benefits Enhancement and Expansion Act:
"I am proud to work with my friend Rep. TJ Cox to support veterans across the country. America should support those who put everything on the line to fight for our freedom and to protect the American way of life. This bill is an important and much needed measure that will ensure our Vietnam veterans receive the benefits they have earned." said Rep. Chip Roy.
"I am proud to announce that the Senate has included my bill, the Forgotten Vietnam Veterans Act, in S. 4511, the Veteran Benefits Enhancement and Expansion Act of 2020. I'd like to thank Chairman Moran, Senator Boozman and Senator Tester for their support of my bill. This bipartisan bicameral bill will help to ensure that brave service of those in the U.S. Military Assistance Advisory Group who served our country receive the benefits they earned," said Rep. TJ Cox.
H.R. 6082 - Forgotten Vietnam Veterans Act extends wartime veterans benefits, including the Veterans Pension and health care, to the US Military Assistance Advisory Group (MAAG). This was a group of nearly more than 3,000 officers, and enlisted people who served our nation during the Vietnam War but are currently ineligible for many of these benefits.
The Forgotten Vietnam Veterans Act seeks to rectify this error. By changing the time period recognized as the Vietnam War era to cover the US Military Assistance Advisory Group (MAAG) as Vietnam War Veterans, they can receive the benefits they deserve.
The Forgotten Vietnam Veterans Act is supported by Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
