Rep. Chip Roy On H.R. 5, The Equality Act
WASHINGTON—Rep. Chip Roy released the following statement Friday regarding H.R. 5, The Equality Act:
"Today, I voted against House Democrats' Equality Act, which my colleagues on the other side of the aisle claim promotes equality for all Americans.
Within the text of H.R. 5, House Democrats buried provisions that will have dire implications for the unborn and those with deeply held religious beliefs. These provisions, taken together, could be used to expand access and funding for abortion. As I have said many times, life is a precious gift from God and I will always fight to defend the unborn and oppose abortion in any form.
Let me be clear: I do not believe that anyone should be discriminated against for any reason. I do believe, as a father of two children, that parents should oversee healthcare decisions for their children, rather than giving politicians in Washington that power."
