Rep. Chip Roy On His Amendment To Streamline The Process For Removing Poor Performing Federal Employees
WASHINGTON--Rep. Chip Roy released the following statement Tuesday regarding an amendment he put forth to streamline the process for federal agencies to remove poor performers:
"If we are going to have a conversation about federal hiring, we need to have one about federal firing. The two are inextricably linked. Workers that are held accountable make any business run more effectively and efficiently. That is how it works in the private sector. That is how it should work in the government. After all, unaccountable government employees make the government less efficient, less effective, and costlier.
The process for removing a federal employee is prohibitively strenuous and should be streamlined. Removing a federal employee for misconduct takes no less than 40 days.
Today, I put forth an amendment to streamline that process and make it easier for federal agencies to award good employees and remove poor performers. As a member of Congress, it my responsibility to make sure that the federal government is using taxpayer dollars in the most efficient manner.
The amendment I offered today is a step in the right direction. Furthermore, it codifies the White House Executive Order to promote accountability and streamline removal procedures consistent with merit system principles."
