More House members join Rep. Roy in calling for Rep. Ocasio-Cortez to apologize to Sen. Cruz for attempted murder comment

February 1, 2021

WASHINGTON — On Monday, Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), along with 13 of his House colleagues, sent a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) caller on her to convince Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) to apologize for effectively accusing Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) of attempted murder the previous week.

"We believe this is completely unacceptable behavior for a member of Congress to make this kind of scurrilous charge against another member, in the House or Senate, for simply engaging in speech and debate regarding electors as they interpreted the Constitution," the letter reads. "We ask you to call on her to immediately apologize and retract her comments."

Cosigners to the letter are Reps. Randy Weber (R-TX), Pat Fallon (R-TX), Ted Budd (R-NC), Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Jody Hice (R-GA), Doug Lamalfa (R-CA), Pete Sessions (R-TX), Michael Burgess (R-TX), Ronny Jackson (R-TX), Barry Moore (R-AL), Madison Cawthorn (R-NC), Yvette Harrell (R-NM) and Jeff Duncan (R-SC).

The letter follows one Congressman Roy sent to Speaker Pelosi demanding that Rep. Ocasio-Cortez immediately apologize hours after her statement last week.

Full text of the letter is available below and at the link here:

The Honorable Nancy Pelosi
Speaker
U.S. House of Representatives H232 United States Capitol Building
Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear Speaker Pelosi,

It has come to our attention that Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sent out a tweet in which she accused Senator Cruz, in essence, of attempted murder. We believe this is completely unacceptable behavior for a member of Congress to make this kind of scurrilous charge against another member, in the House or Senate, for simply engaging in speech and debate regarding electors as they interpreted the Constitution. We ask you to call on her to immediately apologize and retract her comments.

It is our sincere hope that we all stop this heightened rhetoric and move forward to actually do the work the American people sent us here to do.

Sincerely,

Chip Roy
