Chip Roy Unveils The Border Visibility And Security Act

Press Release

Rep. Chip Roy released the following statement regarding his bill, H.R. 5793 -- The Border Visibility and Security Act

“Ask any border patrol agent or law enforcement official who has spent time patrolling the border and they will tell you that the lack of navigable roads and visibility along the Rio Grande is a serious problem,” Congressman Chip Roy said.

“To help our Border Patrol agents and law enforcement personnel, I filed a bill that provides for the eradication of cane, which can reach heights of over 25-feet and covers up to 60,000 acres, growing along the Rio Grande and construction of roads along the entire Southwest border,” Roy said. “These actions are necessary to gain operational control of our southern border and provide CBP with the tools and resources needed to achieve that goal. Human and drug traffickers are exploiting the lack of roads and access to smuggle drugs and migrants for profit.”

“Importantly, our bill is only one step in securing America’s southern border. The legislation is meant to complement and work in tandem with all ongoing efforts to secure the border,” Roy said. “The border is not secure, and we must remain vigilant to ensure America has operational control to protect our national security and the migrants who seek to come here.”

Congressman Greg Steube

“I am proud to support the Border Visibility and Security Act to increase visibility and navigability along our southern border,” said Congressman Steube. “Our Customs and Border Patrol officers need the proper tools and resources to combat the illegal immigration crisis at our border, and this legislation is one of many steps we can take to ensure this happens.”

Brandon Judd, President of the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC)

"This legislation is a no-brainer," said Brandon Judd, President of the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC), "and Congress should finally take action to secure our border and pass this bill immediately. Congressman Roy knows what it takes to secure our border and the Border Visibility and Security Act has the kind of common-sense border security policies that are desperately needed."

"Congressman Roy's legislation puts forward actual solutions that address some of the most fundamental challenges faced by the men and women on the frontlines of securing our border," Judd said. "There is no doubt that this legislation will bring us closer to finally achieving a secure border and the NBPC is proud to support it."

Jaeson Jones, Captain Ret., Texas Department of Public Safety’s Intelligence and Counter-Terrorism Division

“The Carrizo cane remains a severe obstacle to all first responders who work along the border. It provides concealment to smuggling organizations which are significant law enforcement safety issues. It delays first responders from providing time-sensitive lifesaving skills to migrants in desperate need of medical attention. This is good legislation that will save lives. Thank you, Congressman Chip Roy, for listening to all first responders who work the border region and for following through with action by drafting this legislation,” Jaeson Jones, Captain Ret., Texas Department of Public Safety’s Intelligence and Counter-Terrorism Division, Breitbart and Cartel Chronicles Team Member.
