Chip Roy introduces Healthcare Freedom Act
WASHINGTON, DC – On the 12th Anniversary of the Affordable Care Act (Obama Care), Representative Chip Roy (R-TX-21) introduced the Healthcare Freedom Act to put Americans back in charge of their own healthcare.
Rep. Roy said, “Patients and their doctors should be driving our healthcare system — not politicians, and not government or corporate bureaucrats.
The American people are absolutely fed up with Big Healthcare, government bureaucrats, and Congress destroying affordable access to the greatest medical care in the world. It’s time to cut through the knot of government-corporate collusion and put power back in the hands of those who actually provide it and those who actually receive it.
I refuse to sit back and watch our government completely decimate healthcare freedom, and the Healthcare Freedom Act is a crucial step forward to saving it."
H.R. 1769, the Healthcare Freedom Act, would create “Health Freedom Accounts” modeled after the current Health Savings Account (HSA). But, unlike restricted HSAs, H.R. 1769 would allow anyone to hold a Health Freedom Account, and allow tax-free withdrawals for insurance, direct primary care, healthcare sharing options and medications. Importantly, this bill would also equalize the employer-employee tax structure for healthcare by allowing everyone to contribute to HFAs tax-free.
This bill is a crucial step to disrupting our broken healthcare system, restoring free market practices, lowering costs, and giving Americans access to the high quality of care they deserve.
Cosponsors of the legislation include Representatives Randy Weber (R-AZ-14), Rep. Mark Green (R-TN-7), Matt Rosendale (R-MT-2), Marjorie Taylor Green (R-GA-14), Lauren Boebert (R-CO-3), and Bob Good (R-VA-5).
Groups in support include Citizens Council for Healthcare Freedom, FreedomWorks, Free2Care, and Texas Public Policy Foundation.
