Rep. Roy’s statement on Democrats' so-called 'Build Back Better Act'

WASHINGTON— On Friday, Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21) issued the following statement after voting against H.R. 5376 — Democrats’ so-called “Build Back Better Act.”

Today, House Democrats —including ones laughably calling themselves "moderates" — unilaterally rammed through a massive spending bill that will be an absolute disaster for the American people.

This comes after CBO confirmed this nearly $2 trillion monstrosity will add to the national debt. They employed smoke and mirror tactics to hide the true cost of this bill, which will likely balloon to well over $4 trillion once their spending programs are made permanent.

Those numbers are bad enough; but even worse is what the bill will do to transform our republic.

It grants mass amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants, encouraging more to come, exacerbating the already horrific crisis while cartels have operational control of our border and fentanyl pours into our communities.

This bill funnels over a half trillion dollars into radical climate activist agenda programs that will impose energy poverty on hardworking Americans while empowering our enemies.

Shamefully, it increases OSHA fines by over 900% so Joe Biden can enforce his tyrannical vaccine mandate. It will also increase cradle-to-grave dependence on the federal government by expanding government-run healthcare and welfare programs.

Meanwhile, Democrats provide hundreds of billions in tax giveaways to their favored constituencies – rich blue state donors, unions, and the media.

The reasons to oppose this bill have been abundantly clear for months, yet House Democrats have been locked in a public debate on precisely how badly to transform our way of life for weeks now. And let’s not forget: in addition to those allegedly "moderate" Democrats, all of this was made possible by the 13 House Republicans and 19 Senate Republicans that supported Biden’s infrastructure bill.
