Congressman Roy’s Thanksgiving 2021 remarks
WASHINGTON —On Thursday, Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21) issued the following statement on Thanksgiving:
Today, as we pause and reflect on this day of thanks, though our republic is beset by hardship, may we be reminded of the blessings of liberty and prosperity we still enjoy and give thanks to Almighty God for them.
May we reflect on the exceptional words of George Washington, who maintained a spirit of gratitude after facing so many challenges, yet still thanked and honored God Almighty in his proclamation, stating, “the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be.”
May this gratitude for the gifts of divine providence instill in us a greater respect for the eternal, founding principles of this Republic — revealed by “nature and nature’s God,” and articulated by our founders. Let us not forget the countless sacrifices patriots have made throughout our history to preserve these principles and the freedom they defend.
In a world full of men and nations that disdain the unalienable rights authored by Almighty God, may we be truly grateful to live in the greatest nation in the history of the world, and may our gratitude inspire never to grow weary in doing good, and to secure the great inheritance of liberty we have been given as Americans.
