Statement on passage of H.R. 23 to sanction the International Criminal Court
WASHINGTON — Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21) issued the following statement on Thursday following passage of H.R. 23, The Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act:
I am pleased the House passed, my bill H.R. 23 “The Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act” to hold the ICC accountable for targeting Israel and ensure they will face consequences for going after American servicemembers or our allies.
This bill is about protecting America and our allies’ sovereignty from a rogue, globalist court. The ICC investigating and issuing arrest warrants for the sitting Prime Minister of Israel is a blatant assault on a critical ally's sovereignty amid an existential fight against Hamas. Make no mistake, if the ICC is allowed to target Israel unchecked, they will go after American service members and veterans — like the thousands who live in TX-21 — again in the future.
I want to thank you for Chairman Mast and Senator Cotton for their support on this important effort, which passed on a bipartisan basis with the support of 45 Democrats. I look forward to the Senate taking up and passing HR 23 quickly and sending to the President’s desk.
